Well folks, it’s been a tough week. It’s been one of those weeks where if it can go awry it has. It’s been so overwhelming that I am claiming some positivity here and hopefully some laughter too while we are otherwise drowning as a family in worry, anxiety and isolation.
This week I want to highlight many of the silly vocalizations and phrases that Noah has said on the regular that have made us smile and laugh and sometimes laugh til we cry. As you might know, Noah has very little spontaneous language and precious little more echolalia (repeating back words or phrases), so any words are special words from him. These are the most special of the special. Without delay, here’s the list!
“Shoe in the Medicine” is the king of Noah’s comical vocalizations. It was just over a year ago that he pulled this one out of thin air. A year later it still brings a zany laugh to an otherwise dour mood.
“Houdini” with an emphasis on the “dini” was an apropos addition to the lexicon. It began during a time when he was crawling under his fitted sheet and his mattress cover, seeking the tight sensory squeeze it provided. It’s unknown if this was an echo of us calling him a Houdini for maneuvering under and back out or if it was random. Either way, it fits.
“Fock ooh” is a recent development. Yeah, you should have seen all of our faces when that one popped out. A mixture of horrifying humor washed over us. Alright.. who has been cursing around the Noah?!

“Saudi Arabia” was said with a rapid aggressiveness and disdain that made me wonder if he had a greater sense of the world we live in than those in positions of power. I agree buddy.
I can’t recall when & how “Carpania” & “FlyOuttaTheWootsie” were first heard, but the latter is said with a emphasis on a high pitched “wootsie” that one must hear to fully appreciate.
Then there are the movie quotes. Much like his other 3 immediate family members he loves a good movie quote. His most memorable are “Let’s eat it!”, “Ohhh.. my sacroiliac!” & “ThePiratesWhoDon’tDoAnything” (All the words of the last one said really quickly of course!) from the VeggieTales. He also likes one from the movie Elf, “You smell like beef and cheese!” and one from Charlotte’s Web, “Some pig”.
There’s many more lost to the recesses of our memories but, there you have it. A field guide to making Noah laugh, getting Noah to talk and endearing yourself to our family.

I giggled the whole time reading this. Oh noah... :)
